2.4mR

2.4mR is a single handed boat which is sailed by disabled and ablebody people. To sail the boat you don't need so much strenght but tactics and boat handling is in a big role in this class. Boat is steered by handsteering, which is common used among disabled people, example for amputees and spinalcord injury. Boat can be also steered by foot which is more used with ablebodies. When you steer by foot you have more time to pull the ropes which comes infront of you on the boat.

2.4mR is build to R-measurement rule. You can see the formula below. Actually R-rule is firstly designed to America's Cup boats better known as 12mR. But Swedish boat designer Peter Norlin (on the left ) wanted to make it single handed so he divided every measurement from 12mR with five so he got 2.4mR. Ingmar "Imma" Björndahl (on right) got involved to Peter Norlins project and started producing boats in Finland. Novadays the company is runned by Imma's daughter Annika. The company is novadays named Charger Composites and it is located in Kokkola Finland.
